MEMBERS of the Rolls-Royce Owner’s Club in Sydney passed through Mount Isa on their way to a Federal Rally in Perth this week.

A group of 18 members with five Roll Royces and two Bentleys is traveling from Sydney to Perth, driving through Longreach, Mount Isa to Darwin, Broome and then Fremantle before driving back to Sydney along the Nullarbor.

More than 16,000 kilometres will be driven by the time these travelers reach the 57th Federal Rally on April 30 and home again.

Every year since 1992 the Sydney Rolls-Royce Owner’s Club has been driving to their destination for the Federal Rally. Along the way Mr Hiscox said they would pick up a couple in Katherine.

“We always say in New South Wales we will have a little run to get there,” he said.

Rolls-Royce Owners’ Club member Allan Simpson said you couldn’t appreciate the cars until you went to the factor and saw just how much effort and love went into each part of the Roll Royce.

“It isn’t until you do the tour of the factory and see the work. It doesn’t go into any other car with the exception of Ferrari,” he said.

Mr. Simpson said there was one man he spoke to in the factory who hand-stitched the steering wheels and that it was amazing to see how proud he was of that work.

While visiting Mount Isa Mr. Simpson said the underground mine tour was "fabulous" with "excellent service".

On the oldest car, a Silver 1954 Bentley R-Type, sits a lizard bonnet mascot, hand-made by a member of the car group from the Philippines to represent their tour of the outback.

The newest addition to the group’s car collection was a black 2007 Rolls Royce Phantom.
